Medicines are given to poultry to prevent bacteria and viruses from making the animals sick. In some cases the disease can form a risk for food safety, like Salmonellae. Disease control is thus important to minimise these food safety risks. However medicines given to the animals form a risk regarding food safety. The following risks can occur:
• Residues of medicines
• Additives
• Use of antibiotics
• Side effects
• Direct contact
