Vaccinations are used to create immunity against bacterial and viral infections. By vaccinating an animal the immune system has the chance to get “acquainted” to the disease without getting ill. The immune system memorises the disease. The next time the body becomes in contact with the disease the body recognises the disease enabling a faster reaction to “get rid” of the invader. The difference between a natural infection and a live or dead vaccine is given in the figure below.
There are two main forms of Vaccines:
• Live vaccines
• Dead vaccines
