Registration of medicine

Medicines and vaccinations that are used in Western countries have to be registered and approved before a veterinarian can prescribe the medicine. This aspect of veterinary medicine is very important. It makes sure that the medicine or vaccine used is tested on safety, on effectiveness and residues. The Maximum Residual Limit (MRL) of the product is known, making it safe to use for animals and humans. The EU registered medicine can be split in four different groups:
• ANEX I. Is a list of medicine that has a definite maximum MRL
• ANEX II. Is a list of medicine with no MRL
• ANEX III. Is a list of medicine with a temporary maximum MRL
• ANEX IV. Is a list of medicine that are not permitted
